On Tuesday, Forbes revealed that the 21-year-old makeup mogul made its annual ranking of richest people in the world, as both the youngest billionaire in the world and the youngest self-made billionaire.
However, some have taken issue with the idea that Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian clan, is “self-made,” considering the wealth and fame of her family and its popular reality TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
According to Forbes, the 21-year-old’s net worth comes primarily from her cosmetics line Kylie Cosmetics – but despite the magazine’s insistence, dictionary.com has questioned the accomplishment for the second time.
On Twitter, dictionary.com responded to Forbes’ announcement, writing: “Haven’t we gone over this?
“Self-made: Having succeeded in life unaided.”
The dictionary then linked to the dictionary definition of the term.
Last year, the dictionary also contested the claim after Forbes revealed Jenner was likely to be named the youngest self-made billionaire in a year considering the growth of her company.
At the time, dictionary.com tweeted: “Self-made means having succeeded in life unaided.
“Used in a sentence: Forbes says that Kylie Jenner is a self-made woman.”
On social media, the debate over whether Jenner is indeed “self-made” has divided opinion.
