Trump Sacks Media Chief Barely 10 Days At Job

White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci has been fired after fewer than 10 days in the post. The former Wall Street financier had drawn criticism after calling a reporter to give a profanity-laced tirade against his colleagues.

Mr Trump's chief of staff Reince Priebus and spokesman Sean Spicer both left their posts with his appointment.

The decision was made by Mr Trump's new chief of staff, Gen John Kelly, who was sworn in on Monday.

The president was also unhappy with Mr Scaramucci's performance, the White House confirmed.

Mr Trump's spokeswoman, Sarah Sanders, said the president thought Mr Scaramucci's comments to the reporter "were inappropriate for a person in that position".
He has not been moved to another White House role, she added.

Mr Trump had tweeted in the morning about job and wage figures, and insisted there is "No WH chaos", referring to reports about fighting among White House staff.

Photo: Policemen Allegedly Loot GEJ's Abuja House

An Abuja home of former President Goodluck Jonathan has been burgled. However, in what appears a curious twist, the house was not burgled by known thieves, but by police officers assigned to guard the house, Premium Times reports.

The Nigeria Police have thus arrested three of its officers for stealing items valued at several millions of naira from the Abuja residence of the former president.

The items were alleged to have been stolen by the officers from the residence located at No. 89, Fourth Avenue in the Gwarimpa district of Abuja.

They include sets of furniture, dozens of plasma television sets, refrigerators, air-conditioner units and box-loads of clothes such as designer suits imprinted with the former president’s name, male and female Ijaw traditional attires, lace materials and bowler hats.

Premium Times exclusively gathered that the three mobile police officers conducted a systematic looting over a period of three months beginning from around March 2016, until they totally stripped the house of all movable items, which they sold piecemeal to dealers at the Panteka second-hand materials market in Tipper Garage, Gwarimpa.

Mr. Jonathan’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Eze, confirmed the theft to Premium Times. He also confirmed that the affected officers have been arrested.

According to a security source involved in the investigation, by the time family members of the former president were made aware of the looting early this month, the house had been stripped bare.

On getting wind of the arrest of the policemen, two dealers who had been the main recipients of the stolen items were said to have closed down their shops at Panteka market and have since remained at large.

Mr. Jonathan had lived in the house for about a year when he was vice president. His mother was said to have assumed residence there after Mr. Jonathan moved to the Aso Rock Villa upon becoming Acting President in 2010.

Unite accused the Bank of imposing a “derisory” below-inflation pay increase for the second year running. Up to a third of staff will get no pay rise this year, according to the union. Oh well.

Another Baby's Parents Are Fighting For His Life & Might Have To Go The Legal Way

Charlie Gard supporters are rallying round the family of a seriously ill little boy as his parents face a battle with medics to keep him alive.

Tiny Alfie Evans in being treated at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool and suffers from a mystery condition staff are struggling to diagnose.

The 14-month-old family are hoping to find pioneering treatment for their little boy abroad.

Alfie has been in in a coma in the hospital’s intensive care ward since last December, and suffers regular seizures.

Dad Tom Evans, 20, from Bootle, said the death of baby Charlie had come as a devastating blow, and described how he held his own son tight and burst into tears after he heard the news.

As in the Charlie Gard case, doctors have warned they may have to take legal action as Tom will not let them switch off Alfie’s life support.

Tom and Alfie’s mum, Kate James, have not yet faced a court battle like and are hopeful it will not come to that after more than a dozen American hospitals said they might be able to help.

Tom said: “I’m pleading for help from anywhere now. I’ve been getting in touch with lots of hospitals, and I’ve had a particularly positive response from one in Miami, which has received Alfie’s details.”

He added: “I’m heartbroken for Charlie’s parents. There’s no words to understand what his parents have gone through, but they can be so proud of what they’ve done for their son.

“I’m worried because I think Charlie might have had more of a chance than my son, who doesn’t even have a diagnosis - I’m worried about Alder Hey doing the same.

“When I heard about Charlie I just held Alfie as tight as I could, cuddled him and cried my eyes out.”

More than 22,000 people have now joined the “Alfie’s Army” page on Facebook, with thousands of pounds also donated to a fundraising page.

Sowore in his presentation at the Tracking Faulty Towers workshop which held at the University of Kent, London according to thecalbeng report said: “There is no corruption in Nigeria anymore because there is nothing else to steal and loot,” he said.

“When Buhari saw how much has been looted, he became sick… We are happy that Nigeria is no longer among the ten top countries in the world.”

“Western countries accepting Nigeria and other countries stolen money should be the ones tagged corrupt,” he said.

“In my village, the custodian of stolen things is seen as the main criminal… People cannot steal in western countries because where to keep the stolen money is a challenge.

“The Western world made their system very difficult to steal and loot money.”

He also commended Buhari for putting in place strict measures to check corruption.

“Transferring money from abroad to Nigeria has a limit and the charges are high but in Nigeria, we don’t have such until Buhari came into power,” he said.

Wike Forging More Documents To Persecute Me - Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation and immediate past governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has accused Governor Nyesom Wike, of forging more documents to persecute him.

Amaechi claimed that Wike wanted to use the distorted and forged documents to persecute and prosecute him in court, adding that the governor had bragged that he would secure judgement against him in any court because he had the judiciary at the state and national levels in his (Wike) pocket.

The former governor, in a statement by his Media Office, said, “The Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has continued to twist, falsify and forge fresh documents that he intends to use against the immediate past governor of the state and now Minister of Transportation Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

“Wike wants to use the elaborately distorted and most times outright, but carefully forged documents to persecute and prosecute his erstwhile benefactor in court. In the past couple of days, Wike has been telling anyone who cares to listen, bragging that he will certainly get a conviction, a judgement against Amaechi in the law courts on spurious charges of corruption using his forged documents because he (Wike) is in control of the judiciary at the state and national level.

“Nigerians would recall that only a few days back, Livingstone Wechie, the young man Wike used to accuse Amaechi of corruption and write false and frivolous petitions to the National Assembly and the EFCC etc, confessed in a live television programme and in a statement he also circulated to the media, that all the documents he used to wrongfully portray Amaechi as corrupt when he governed Rivers State, were phony, forged documents given to him by Wike’s Rivers State Government House.

“Wechie also admitted, like we have always said, that the forged documents were used as the template and basis for the Justice Omereji-led Judicial Commission of Inquiry, a panel Wike set up early in his administration to malign, vilify and persecute Amaechi.

“Sadly, this is the kind of administration that presides over the affairs of Rivers people; an administration that embarks on wholesale forgery and distortion of government documents and then retails it out to his minions, the media and now the judiciary in a shameful and futile bid to defame and destroy Amaechi.

Amaechi noted that Nigerians would not forget how Wike, told the media that the over $43m found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in a luxury apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos and the apartment belonged to him (Amaechi).

“Wike shamelessly said that the money was part of what was stolen from Rivers State – and warehoused in the Ikoyi house by his predecessor and current Minister for Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

“Not done with his concocted tales, Wike went further to threaten the President Muhammadu Buhari administration with fire and brimstone if the money is not returned to him (Wike). He gave the Federal Government a seven-day ultimatum to return the money; otherwise, he would institute the mother of all legal actions against the Buhari government to recover the money,” the former governor further recalled.

Reacting, Wike said Amaechi’s reckless blackmail of the judiciary would fail, adding that the former governor’s allegation was unfounded, baseless and a figment of his (Amaechi) imagination.

A statement from the governor’s Special Assistant on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakaudu, partly read, “…We are not surprised by Amaechi’s antics to blackmail the judiciary. Ever since the Supreme Court victory that validated the election of Governor Wike, Amaechi has never failed to malign the judiciary.

“Governor Wike is a law-abiding citizen, who believes in the rule of law. That is why he has followed due process in tackling the issues of high level corruption against the Minister of Transportation.”

Police Detain 7-Month Old Pregnant Woman Over N50

A pregnant pepper seller on Hassan Ogunlana Street, Ijaiye, Lagos State, has been traumatised after she was thrown into a police cell for reporting an assault on her.

The woman, Iyabo Taiwo, had lodged a complaint at the Meiran Police Station against a resident, identified simply as Simon, aka Best, who allegedly pushed her into a drainage channel.

Punch Metro learnt that the case was, however, turned against her because Simon was a relative of a senior officer at the station.

Punch correspondent was told that Simon had bought some red peppers from the woman last Monday and was supposed to collect N50 change.

It was gathered that Taiwo went to visit her ailing husband at a hospital the following day and did not open shop.

The woman said hardly had she arrived at the shop on Wednesday with fresh stock when Simon came to collect the change.

She stated that she told him to come back for the change, but he suddenly resorted to force and started taking her goods.

The 30-year-old woman, who spoke with Punch correspondent in Yoruba, said, “I explained to him that I had used all the money on me to buy peppers and begged him to give me little time to sell so that I will give him the change.

“But he dipped his hands into a basket to pack some peppers. So, I held his shirt. He freed himself from my grip and threw me into a gutter. I went to report at the Meiran Police Station and some policemen followed me to arrest him.

“On getting to the station, he spoke in English and Igbo with a police officer. Then, a policeman told me that some people beat him (Simon) and that I would be detained until they arrest those people. Simon was told to go.”

The woman said she spent over 24 hours in detention and was freed after members of a pepper sellers association she belonged to paid N4,500 to secure her bail.

She said, “I was locked up inside a cell. They didn’t give me food. I was feeling pains all over my body. Members of my association later contributed N4,500 before I was released in the evening of the following day (Thursday).

“My pregnancy is over seven months now. I have gone to do a scan at a hospital to know the condition of my baby. The result will be out on Monday (today).

“The Commissioner of Police invited me and some policemen to his office in Ikeja on Friday. He was angry with them and told them to refund the N4,500. They asked me to come for the money on Monday (today).”

A resident, who begged for anonymity, said shortly after Taiye was released on Thursday, Simon allegedly mobilised some thugs to beat two men, Ope and Muri Waheed, who cautioned him for assaulting the woman.

“Youths in the community confronted the thugs he brought and there was confusion everywhere. An elderly man tried to caution one of the thugs to no avail. On Friday, he came again with the thugs and they smashed bottles on the street.

“Some policemen came, but none of the hoodlums was arrested. The Divisional Police Officer of the station and the guy (Simon) that beat the pepper seller are Igbo. We also learnt that he has a relative at the station,” he added.

Waheed’s wife, Bose, told Punch correspondent that he (Waheed) was arrested on Friday and detained in the station.

“He didn’t know anything about the incident. They handcuffed him; his elder brother took food to him at the station. He was released on Saturday evening,” she added.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said neither the pregnant woman nor Waheed was detained.

He said the CP had intervened in the matter, adding that some policemen were being queried in respect of the case.

He said, “The Igbo man wanted to collect his change and she pleaded with him that she had not sold anything for the day. The guy was adamant. It was just a mere human misunderstanding. She was not detained from Wednesday to Thursday; that is not true. The case was not turned against the pregnant woman.

“All the parties involved have been invited and investigation is ongoing. Those that caused a breakdown of law and order have been arrested. The CP is aware; those officers involved are already undergoing investigations to know the police action as regards the incident. We will go to the scene to know what transpired.

“The provost of the command is investigating and if there was any misconduct as regards police action, we will deal with that departmentally.”

Herbalist, Two Others Arrested For Circulating Fake Naira, Dollar Notes

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Niger State have arrested a herbalist and two others for allegedly circulating fake naira and dollar notes.

The herbalist, Rabiu Abubakar, 36, and Sadiq Ibrahim, 30, from Kano and Zamfara States respectively were arrested alongside one Hussaini Hassan in Minna in connection with the crime.

The state NSCDC commandant, Mr. Philip Ayuba, who disclosed this to Northern City News on Sunday, said  Abubakar and Ibrahim were nabbed with fake $400,000 notes.

According to Ayuba, Abubakar had asked his victim to provide N20,000 which he promised to double in dollars.

The victim reportedly provided the amount, after which the herbalist handed him a carton and directed him not to open it until he got home.

The commandant said when the victim opened the carton at home,  it was filled  with fake American dollars with sawdust underneath the notes.

Ayuba explained that the second suspect, Sadiq, was apprehended at the bridge after Mobil Roundabout in Minna where he was waiting for a victim whom he had asked to provide N300,000.

The commandant said it was discovered that both Abubakar and Ibrahim were accomplices.

He said Hassan, who was arrested with N16,000 in fake N1,000 notes in Minna, was still being investigated.

“As soon as investigations are completed, the suspects would either be handed over to the police or charged to court,” Ayuba said.
