Men marrying 4 women are helping the society - Ned Nwoko

Nigerian billionaire and politician, Ned Nwoko has disclosed that having multiple wives is relevant in today’s world looking at the economic stress in the country.

The 60-year-old husband of Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels opened up on his career, family and his wife in an interview with BBC Igbo where he detailed how he married all his wives.

According to Ned Nwoko who does not believe in dating, marrying four women is helping society because it is due to the downturn of the economy that has force many women into prostitution.

On his marrying another wife, he said:

“Whether I marry another wife is not … she knows that it can happen, I come from a very polygamous environment myself, I love children and I want more children, she knows it and my other wives know this, so we see what happens in the future.”

“You see the average Northerner marrying two, three, four women, they are helping the society because it is the economic downturn that has affected so many women who you see doing prostitution and all that. But the fallacy of it all is that Christianity does not allow that in the South and yet, the average Southern man has 10 girlfriends.

“I love my culture as I know it, not as they are trying to dilute it. Igbo culture is wonderful and should be promoted the way it has always been. But even looking at that, look at your population in Nigeria and what I will call economy of marriage, as an Igbo man with one wife, four children, a Northerner has four wives with five children each, in the next 10 years, 20 years, imagine the population of the Northerner.

“With you, an Igbo person, the population will be like one to five because of this disparity. The gap is getting bigger and Igbos will never catch up because of this self-imposed restriction,” he bemoaned.

I achieved fame earlier than I thought –Blossom Chukwujekwu

Blossom Chuwujekwu is one of the talented actors that is making the movie industry tick at the moment. His fluid acting skills have also endeared him to many.

In an interview with Sunday Scoop, the actor said people often told him that his rise to stardom was swift. He said, “I think I achieved fame earlier than I thought. Everybody tells me that my rise was really fast. It has been amazing.

There have been challenges but we have surmounted them and I don’t have any regrets. There are things one might think one could have done better, but there is really no time to regret.

The most important thing is to move on and correct any mistake one thinks one has made. My journey, so far, has been really amazing and rewarding. I would credit it all to the grace of God. However, working hard and having the right people around one has been strategic as well.

Also, one cannot discount the place of humility. Humility opens doors. One has to stay humble, irrespective of what one thinks one has achieved. I like to learn from people I work with, whether the person is experienced or inexperienced.”

Lekki shootings: Army withdraws from Lagos panel

The Nigerian Army has withdrawn participation from the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and the October 20 Lekki Toll Gate ‘shootings’.

A former member of its team of counsel to the panel, Mr S.N Agweh, said the Army had disbanded the team.

The team was headed by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Mr Akinlolu Kehinde.

The Army, after making a few appearances, has shunned repeated summons for several of its officers, including summons sent by the panel through former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Gen Tukur Buratai.

The officers are a Lieutenant Colonel of the 81 Division, S.O Bello, who was the Commanding Officer of the 65 Batallion, which was at the Lekki Toll Gate on October 20, and Godwin Umelo, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 81 Division.

Their invitation followed the testimony of the Commander of 81 Division, Major-General Ibrahim Taiwo, debunking claims that soldiers shot #EndSARS protesters with live bullets during the operation.

Petitioners at the tribunal have alleged that soldiers fired live bullets at peaceful protesters, killing and injuring several, contrary to the Army’s claim that only blanks were fired in the air to disperse stone throwers.

The hearing of proceedings involving the Army have been stalled as neither the officers nor their counsel were present.

The last hearing on January 23 was the third time in a row, and the panel chairman, Judge emeritus Dorris Okuwobi warned of the consequences of the military’s failure to honour the summons.

Justice Okuwobi said the army would not be able to complain of fair hearing denial after the panel submits its findings to the government.

She said: “The difficulties the panel now experiences is having Mr Kehinde explain to the panel why those summoned by the panel are not attending proceeding; this is creating undue delay in the investigation of the Lekki event of October 20, 2020.

“In that respect, it is hereby ordered that the counsel for the panel shall issue a letter to learned Silk, Mr A.T Kehinde, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to appear before the panel at the next adjourned date to explain why he would not conclude the case of the Nigerian Army.”

Mrs. Okuwobi said it behoved on Kehinde to assist the panel in achieving the task of investigating the Lekki shooting incident to avoid issues of denial of fair hearing that might arise when the panel’s report is submitted to the government.

But appearing on the SANs’ behalf, Agweh said Kehinde had already written to the panel to explain why he was no longer appearing at the panel.

He spoke just after a petition involving Reddington Hospital’s role in providing medical care for injured #EndSARS protesters was called.

Agweh said: “The letter written by Kehinde, dated 20th January, which was already sent to this panel, explains it all, that the team of legal practitioners led by Kehinde, SAN, who represented the Nigerian Army on this panel, based on the summons issued by this panel on the 28th day of October, 2020, that team has been disbanded by the Nigerian Army.

“Our job finished; I think, on 21st of November, and so, we do not have any further mandate to represent the Army in any subsequent proceedings.

“So, it is not a matter of disrespect that that team is no longer appearing here. In short, when this case was called, I didn’t even know the Nigerian Army was involved in it, because as at that time, these cases were not before this tribunal. We had finished our business before these cases came up.”

Following arguments by counsel, panel chair Justice Doris Okuwobi ruled that all five petitions slated for Saturday involving the Army be adjourned till February 27, and fresh summons be sent to officers named as respondents in the cases.

Adekunle however called for quick intervention of the Oyo State government to restore peace back to the area, adding that security personnel should deploy harmour tank to Iyana Aderogba and Beyerunka junction.

Anti-gay law: 40% of Nigerian lawmakers, over twelve governors are homosexuals – Uche Maduagwu

Nollywood Actor, Uche Maduagwu has called on the US President, Joe Biden, to place sanctions on the Nigerian government over the 2014 anti-gay law, alleging that 40% of the current lawmakers and over twelve governors are homos.e.xuals.

The law was signed by ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan and it prohibits all forms of gay relationships in Nigeria.

The law also states that a 14-year jail term awaits anyone caught in an act of homos.e.x.uality.

However, Uche in a post via his Instagram account asked President Biden to sanction the Nigerian government over the law.

He also alleged that 40% of the current lawmakers and 12 state governors are homos.e.x.uals but are hiding behind closed doors.

“Dear President Joe Biden. I am proudly gay, and I beg you to place sanctions on Nigerian government for its inhuman laws against law-abiding homos.e.x.uals.

“This same government pampers wicked Fulani herdsmen who kidnap and cause trouble in southern part of Nigeria.

“We are tired and scared despite the fact that more than 40% of current legislatures and over twelve governors are homosexuals in naija; why the hypocrisy,” he said.

Trump’s impeachment: Five lawyers dump former US president

At least, five of former US President, Donald Trump’s lawyers defending his impeachment have left his team, CNN reports.

The trial is set to begin on February 9, 2021.

The five lawyers, including two who were thought to be leading the team, have dumped Trump after they disagreed over his legal strategy.

Trump had wanted them to continue with his claims of mass election fraud and not focus on the legality of convicting a president after he has left office.

The report says the former US president was “not receptive” to discussion.

The lawyers including Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier, while parting ways with Trump described it as a “mutual decision.”

“We have done much work, but have not made a final decision on our legal team, which will be made shortly,” tweeted Trump advisor Jason Miller in response to the reports.

However, even with the uncertainty surrounding his legal team, Trump looks increasingly likely to dodge conviction.

Travel bans to affect Champions League fixtures

Liverpool are facing a Champions League scheduling headache, after the German government banned all flights from the UK until February 17, in a bid to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Germany.

The Premier League champions are to play RB Leipzig in Germany on February 16.

But the Reds may now need to find an alternative solution.

Playing the match at a neutral venue is a possibility open to the clubs, or swapping the venues for the first and second leg.

That would mean Leipzig travelling to Liverpool for the first leg on February 16 and Jurgen Klopp’s side playing in Germany on March 10.

Leipzig would be able to travel to Anfield and back for the first leg, as German passport holders and residents are allowed to travel to Germany where they’d be tested straight away.

According to him, Davido has made a huge success of himself regardless of his background, which ordinarily should have made him complacent.

He said: “It’s not easy to be a rich kid and still go on and work. I don’t think I will be this hardworking if my dad was a billionaire.”

Hairdresser Ifesinachi hides N21b worth of cocaine in 16 duvet covers

A 33 year-old Nigerian woman, Onyejegbu Ifesinachi Jennifer, has been arrested by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for smuggling cocaine worth N21 billion into Nigeria.

The cocaine, weighing 26.84 kg, was concealed in 16 duvets, that she brought into the country from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

It was the biggest single seizure from an individual in the past 15 years.

Ifesinachi was said to be a hairdresser.

Her arrest at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on 27 January came amidst the vow by the new NDLEA chairman, Brigadier Buba Marwa to dismantle drug trafficking cartels across Nigeria.

According to the spokesman of the agency, Jonah Achema: “On the 27th of January 2021, at about 1320hours, during the inward clearance of Ethiopian Airline passengers at the E- arrival hall of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, a female passenger by name Onyejegbu Ifesinachi Jennifer, 33 years, who arrived Nigeria from Sao Paulo, Brazil via Addis Ababa, was intercepted by NDLEA operatives.

“As a standard operating procedure, all passengers to and from high-risk countries are always profiled using passengers’ manifest.

“It happened that the above-named suspect was targeted. Consequently, she was taken to the NDLEA office at the airport, where her bags were searched thoroughly, and in the process, whitish powdery substances were found concealed inside 16 pieces of duvet contained in her two travel bags.

“Field test was conducted on the recovered substances and proved positive to cocaine and weighed 26.850kilograms. The suspect who is a hairstylist and based in Brazil was interviewed and she confessed to having agreed to smuggle the hard drug for the N2m only.

“Although she refused to disclose the names of her associates, she mentioned that she was asked to hand over the drugs to another person. The street value of this singular seizure is put at over N21billion.”

How I contracted COVID-19 from my kids – Victoria Inyama

At a time when many thought that the coronavirus pandemic was coming to an end, there is now a second wave of the virus in Nigeria, which appears to be more virulent.

Many celebrities and notable personalities, who contracted the virus, have spoken about their ordeals, and a United Kingdom-based actress, Victoria Inyama, has lent her voice to the call for people to take the virus more seriously.

Sharing her experience with Sunday Scoop, Inyama said, “I have learnt how to appreciate every second because life is so fragile. My experience of COVID-19 was sleep paralysis— that feeling of being conscious but unable to move or even speak due to very painful breathing and tightening of the chest. That is the moment when most people (who have the virus) die. It is a bit like choking on one’s air supply.

“I was still positive as of the time l left the hospital last week. My doctor says l am now dealing with ‘Long COVID’, which is the term used to describe the effects of COVID-19 that continues for weeks or months.

" I wish people would be serious with their health. It is important to wear a mask, avoid gatherings, wash hands regularly, and avoid hugging or standing closer than two feet.”

The mental health advocate also revealed that all her children tested positive for the virus. She added, “One of my kids contracted it in school. And, while l was trying to care for each of them, l got it too. We all tested positive, so l guess they were mentally ready.

Our government made the mistake of reopening schools which made this wave of the virus spread so fast from the children to their parents. No amount of precautions could have helped parents like me.

I also feel the Nigerian government is not safeguarding the people. How on earth can a government that claims to be reasonable ‘force’ people to register their mobile phones? That is a process that involves people gathering in large numbers. Because of this, l don’t blame people who doubt the existence of the virus in Nigeria.”

How Obasanjo stopped Tinubu from becoming Buhari’s VP in 2015– Oyinlola

A former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has revealed how former President Olusegun Obasanjo truncated the ambition of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, to become the running mate to Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), who was the APC presidential candidate in 2015.

Oyinlola explained that even though Obasanjo was the last person to throw his weight behind Buhari’s candidature, having opposed the re-election of the then President, Goodluck Jonathan, he was eventually prevailed upon to support the former military ruler.

In an interview with one of Punch correspondents, Oyinlola, who was once the military administrator of Lagos State, pointed out that there was already an agreement between Buhari and Tinubu before 2015 that they would be presidential and vice-presidential candidates respectively, a deal he said was initially hidden from most party members.

This development, according to him, led to some uneasiness in the party as they feared that a Muslim-Muslim ticket could cost the APC victory in the election, given the near-equal population of Christians and Muslims in the country and the sensitivity that surrounds religion issues in the country.

Prior to the 2015 elections, political parties always ensured their presidential candidates and their running mates emerged from the two dominant religions, with the only exception being the MKO Abiola/Babagana Kingibe candidacy on the platform of the Social Democratic Party in the June 12, 1993 election.

Even though Abiola and Kingibe, who were the presidential candidate and running mate respectively, eventually won the election, it is regarded as a one-off scenario. The election was later annulled by the regime of the then dictator, General Ibrahim Babangida.

Meanwhile, speaking further, Oyinlola explained that if not for Obasanjo’s intervention, the APC would likely have gone ahead with the Muslim-Muslim ticket and the party could have found it difficult to displace the government in power, especially when all reservations that surfaced over the proposed Muslim-Muslim ticket had been dismissed.

He added, “The agreement was concealed from a good number of the party leaders until it surfaced after Buhari had got the ticket. Then the rumour came out and some us felt danger was looming with the idea of Muslim-Muslim ticket. To further add to our fears, General Buhari on one occasion said there was nothing wrong in the Muslim-Muslim presidential arrangement, saying after all he governed with Tunde Idiagbon.

“That statement made us to know it (the Muslim-Muslim idea) was a fact. On two occasions, Bola (Tinubu) mentioned it in my presence that they agreed. If you recall one trending video back then, where it was said that Buhari had jettisoned what they agreed on, that is the room he was sleeping when Buhari was looking for the post.

“We then told Baba (Obasanjo). We told him that taking power from an incumbent government was a tough task and we must not give room for excuse and miss the target. We told him they (Buhari and Tinubu) were thinking of a Muslim-Muslim ticket. That was when Baba (Obasanjo) said people should not take the sensibilities of Nigerians for granted.”

He said after Obasanjo’s intervention succeeded in changing the decision, some people started spreading the news that Obasanjo frustrated the plan to make Tinubu the vice-presidential candidate.

He added, “After that (Obasanjo’s intervention), they started saying it in my presence that Obasanjo frustrated the plan to get Tinubu on the ticket for 2015 but I always acted as if I didn’t hear them. We then had a stakeholders meeting where the issue of the running mate was discussed again.”

In addition to Obasanjo’s input, Oyinlola said a former governor of Gombe State, Danjuma Goje, also cautioned against the Muslim-Muslim ticket, especially because the party needed all the votes it could get from different parts of the country.

He added, “At the meeting, ex-governor Goje, rose up and said in the northern part, there is negligible number of Christians. He said the APC would need every vote to upstage the incumbent, so nobody should toy with the idea of a Muslim-Muslim ticket and everybody concurred. I think it was even Bola (Tinubu) that suggested that the matter should be taken before some leaders to resolve. But we never saw anything like that again.”

More terrible times for Prophet Israel Oladele as he is billed to celebrate his 47th birthday in jail

All efforts to get a bail for the Shepherd-in-Charge of Celestial Church of Christ Global Genesis Parish, Israel Oladele Ogundipe, aka Israel Genesis, have been abortive since he was jailed for defrauding a United Kingdom-based woman, Mrs. Olaide Williams-Oni.
