Abia Governor To Send 100 Shoe Makers To China For Training To Set Up Abia State Shoe Factory

Thirty shoe cobblers in Abia State will leave for the Peoples Republic of China on Friday to acquire more knowledge in their field.

The Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu on Monday January 1, during a state broadcast to the people of the state announced that 30 shoemakers from Abia would be departing for the People’s Republic of China on Friday, 5.

Ikpeazu stated that the 30 persons whose majority, The Nation gathered are from Ariaria International market, Aba were the 1st batch of 100 shoemakers from Abia State to undergo intensive training in automated shoemaking technology in China and stated that the state government upon the return of the trainees would procure the full range of equipments required to set up an Abia State Automated Shoe Factory in Aba.


The governor added that the youths would form the nucleus of the workforce in the shoe Factory which shall be commissioned before June 2018

Change Or You Will Be Changed, Father Mbaka Warns President Buhari

Fiery Catholic priest, Rev. Ejike Mbaka, has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight, warning that the President should change “those cabal holding him in captivity otherwise he would be changed”.

Mbaka spoke in his New Year message during the cross over mass at his Emene Enugu Adoration Ground.

His message reads: “I had wanted to pray for you and go because I don’t want anybody to attack me; I don’t want the Bishop to invite me; I don’t want politicians to attack me anywhere. But God forced me to say it.

“Listen to me, 2017 became one of the most horrible years in this country and that is the message. The Lord says, Nigerians, he says, captive Nigerians, you will be speedily rescued; Nigerians, things are very difficult, hard and tough nowadays; the hardship is not from God, they are man-made; the wicked cabals and satanic agents in this country have wickedly kidnapped the goodwill and good intentions of President Muhammadu Buhari; his good intentions have been kidnapped; President Buhari must wake up and sit up immediately or…heaven demands him, heaven demands Buhari, our President to change all those who are holding and caging him in captivity; if he will not change them, he will be changed.


“Mr. President wake up; sit up; God said you are toying with the privilege given to you; there is no time; Nigerians are dying in your hand; people are not happy with your system. Change or you will be changed; God said that Buhari is in trouble; Buhari is hypnotised; Buhari is in a horrible bondage; Buhari’s mantra has been canibalised.

“Unless President Buhari quickly and strategically positions the right people and changes the ones he inaugurated, the wind of change that he himself inaugurated will blow him away shamefully. The wind will be too strong that Mr. President and the cabal will be blown out of office shamefully. The wind will be irresistible for it will come like a hurricane. Buhari can handle this problem but number one, his office, if he is not careful, another will take.

“Number 2, if he is doesn’t want to move Nigeria forward, God says He himself will plan a strategy of moving Nigeria forward. His pattern of embattling corruption is not just archaic and barbaric, but is witch-hunting, terribly selective. Mr. Buhari, why should you and EFCC be selective in arrests and prosecution, such that your party becomes a hideout for criminals?

15 Shot Dead In New Year’s Day Attack On Worshippers

A Man, his wife, five children and eight others were killed yesterday in Omoku, headquarters of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Over 52 persons, who were also injured in the New Year’s Day attack by some gunmen, were in critical condition in hospitals.

The victims had just concluded a service in an unnamed church when the gunmen opened fire on them.

The bodies of the 15 victims, as at press time, were still at the pavilion of the secretariat of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Council in Omoku, their relatives and friends making efforts to identify them.


The rampaging gunmen were suspected to be militants working for a man the military described as “a notorious kidnapper, militant, cultist, ardent illegal oil bunkerer”, Mr. Igwedibia Johnson, aka Don Waney, who is on the run, following the raid of his camp and shrines on November 20, last year, as part of 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt’s continued efforts to rid the Niger Delta of criminals.

In Southern Kaduna yesterday, a ruler Mallam Gambu Makama and his wife were gun down by mask-wearing gunmen in their home after midnight.

An indigene of Omoku, who yesterday gave details of how the 15 worshippers were gunned down but would not want his name in print, to avoid his being trailed by the criminals, said as the Christians were leaving their various churches on January 1, the gunmen were spraying them with bullets at close range.

The source said: “Since 2014, when the crisis started in Omoku and its environs, over 500, mostly innocent people, have been killed.

“I am calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Nyesom Wike to take immediate action to secure the lives and property of residents of Omoku and its environs, especially with the forthcoming primaries of political parties and general elections.

“We do not deserve the killings in Omoku and its environs. We are not in a state of war. Don Waney’s boys have regrouped and are terrorising innocent citizens. Over 52 wounded victims of New Year Day attack in Omoku are now in various hospitals and clinics.”

Nigeria To Ban Rice Importation This Year

President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged that his administration will ban rice importation in 2018.
While stating this in his New Year broadcast the President said;

“We have got to get used to discipline and direction in economic management. The days of business as usual are numbered.

“Two years ago I appealed to people to go back to the land. I am highly gratified that agriculture has picked up, contributing to the government’s effort to re-structure the economy. Rice imports will stop this year. Local rice, fresher and more nutritious will be on our dishes from now on.

“By the same token, I am today appealing to enterprising Nigerians with ideas and unemployed graduates and other able-bodied and literate men and women with ideas not to just sit and wait for employment from the government or the Organized Private Sector.Great nations are built by enterprising people who turn their hands to anything that circumstances dictate.”

The US President appeared in black tie alongside First Lady Melania and son Barron.

Photos: 1,400 Vehicles Destroyed & 80 Horses Evacuated After Blaze In Multi-Storey Car Park

At least 1,400 vehicles have been destroyed and around 80 horses evacuated after a fire at a car park next to the Liverpool Echo Arena.

The blaze broke out inside a multi-storey car park when a vehicle exploded next to the venue as a show jumping event was being held.

People were forced to leave flats nearby due to a wall of smoke that also infiltrated the arena, forcing organisers to cancel the horse show's evening session.

It is believed a Land Rover erupted in flames on the car park's third level and the fire spread to multiple vehicles.


Witnesses heard "loud bangs" and saw horses in the road after the animals were evacuated from a lower floor.

Police said all vehicles in the 1,600-capacity car park are destroyed and it appeared to be almost full.

There were 21 fire engines at the scene and a number of police vans as crews battled the blaze.

Police confirmed there are fears the building may collapse entirely.

A witness said: "I could hear loud bangs. The cars were still there and we had to leave the car.

“There was police on the scene, horses in the road, lots of banging and smoke. I can’t get to the car so I'm having to walk to Lime Street for the train.”

Mayor Joe Anderson later wrote on Twitter that "everyone was safe and no animals were hurt".

Multimillionaire Food Boss Dies Alongside His Sons, Fiancee And Her Own Daughter In New Year Tragedy

A multimillionaire food boss and his family were among five Brits killed in a plane crash in Sydney.

Richard Cousins, CEO of the world's largest catering company Compass, died alongside his sons Edward, 23, and William, 25, in the New Year's Eve tragedy.

His fiancee Emma Bowden, 48, her 11-year-old daughter Heather, and the 44-year-old Australian pilot Gareth Morgan also perished when the aircraft plunged into the Hawkesbury River shortly after 3pm.

All were known to each other, it is understood, and had enjoyed a lunch at the famous Cottage Point Inn, a picturesque venue on the coast of New South Wales.


The plane was headed on a pleasure flight back to Rose Bay when it plunged into the water shortly after take-off.

The cause of the New Year's Eve crash is currently unclear.

Buratai Orders Investigation Into Alleged Extortion By Soldiers

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai has ordered investigation into alleged extortion of motorists by soldiers on the Maiduguri-Gamboru Ngala road in Borno.

The Director of Army Public Relations, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman said in a statement on Sunday that the order followed the complaint by a man, who identified himself as “DanBorno” on his Twitter account.

According to Usman, DanBorno alleged soldiers collected N300,000 from each truck driver to escort the long queue of  vehicles on that road.


“The Nigerian Army has noted with great concern  an allegation of complacency and extortion against soldiers

“Consequent upon this, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General T.Y. Buratai has ordered for immediate investigation over these allegations.

“The Nigerian Army as a professional military institution thrives on discipline, selflessness and dedication to duty and operates within the confines of the laws, Code of Conduct and Rules of Engagement.

“It would not tolerate any act of misdemeanour by any of its personnel.

“Similarly, we encourage members of the public to take advantage of our toll free telephone number 193 to report any observed lapses or allegation against any officer or soldier,” he said.

Again, Badoo Attacks, Injures Family In Lagos

Suspected members of ritual gang, Badoo again on Sunday morning attacked a family at Lajo in Ibeshe, Ikorodu, a Lagos district.

The attack, which was said to have occurred around 3am, left the man identified as Shakiru, his wife and six-month-old baby critically injured.

It was gathered that alarm raised by Shakiru’s neigubour attracted the attention of other community residents, who surrounded the area that night in search of the suspects.

According to a resident, the family was attacked by two men, who gained entry into their home by smashing one of their windows.


The resident told The Nation that the community elders immediately notified the local vigilantes and the victims were rushed to the hospital.

He said: “The attack occurred around 3am. The man’s name is Shakiru but he’s popularly called Shakur. The two Badoo members attacked his family. They were rushed to the hospital but we later heard the man died.

“His wife and child are in the hospital. We could not sleep anymore.  People were shouting Badoo Badoo and that was how everyone came out to hunt them.

“They were two men. One of them fled into a thick bush. The other one was not lucky as he was caught. People descended on him and asked him to mention names of their sponsors.

“He started talking. He mentioned one Baba Noah. But when angry youths went to look for the man, he has fled. They wanted to lynch the suspect but the police came to the scene and said they were called by the Baale to take the suspect.

“The police took him away. The mob injured the suspect on the leg. There was tension in the area because the people do not have confidence in the police.
Contacted, police spokesman, Chike Oti, a Superintendent (SP) confirmed the incident but denied the attack was carried out by Badoo.
He said: “We are aware of the situation. We intervened and were able to make some arrests. It was not a Badoo killing. Already, we have raided the home of one of the persons mentioned but he has fled.”
