AMCON To Seize N5.4tr Debtors’ Assets

Bank debtors who are owing N5.4 trillion are set to lose their assets.

They have failed to honour their promises to pay, the Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) said yesterday.

AMCON Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ahmed Kuru told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the N5.4 trillion debt had lingered for too long.

Kuku said AMCON was tired of obligors (debtors) lying about staggered payment plans, which they never complied with.

He said the N5.4 trillion debt had been with the banks for five years before AMCON bought them over, adding that after seven years of the companies’ operations, the obligors were yet to pay.

“Resolutions through staggered plans have never worked. Let us not forget that before those loans were transferred to AMCON, they had been with the banks for over five  years.

“Now, AMCON is almost seven years, so the facility has been running bad for 12 years. It is not easy to recover those kinds of facilities.

“So now we have changed our strategy from sitting down and drinking tea and the obligors telling us lies and we pretend that we don’t know you are telling us lies.

“There is no more time for lies because we have a sunset period.  So now our focus is on recovery.  We do not want to hear anything; you cannot come and tell me you are going to pay me in the next six years. I do not have that time.

“If you cannot pay me the money now, then give me my assets, because the assets belong to AMCON so that we can sell it.”

No  fewer than 10 perons died at the weekend in two attacks in Plateau State.

The attacks in Mangu and Barkin Ladi local governments have forced the special military task force Operation Safe Haven to move its headquarters to Barkin Ladi to end the killings.

Six persons died in the Saturday night attack in Mangu. Four died early yesterday in the Barkin Ladi incident.

The attacks followed those of June 23 when scores died.

Confirming the continuous killings despite the curfew and heavy military presence, the media officer of the task force, Major Adam Umar, said: “The OPSH notes with dismay the continued attitude of some criminals in the state that are bent on making the state ungovernable through some unwarranted attacks on some communities and innocent villagers despite the tireless efforts of the task force.

“We regret to say that about 0300 hours Sunday morning of 1st July, our men at Dorowa received a distress call from a resident of Mararaban Kantoma of Barkin Ladi Local Government that they were under attack by some armed bandits.

“On receiving the distress call, our men mobilised to the scene immediately to repel the attackers. The assailants who were given hot chase by our men escaped with various degrees of injuries while four of them were arrested.

“However, It is regrettable that before our men could get to the scene of the attack, four persons had already been killed by the attackers.

“Consequently, in its avowed commitment to ensuring that the renewed attacks are promptly brought to an end, the commander of the task force, Major General Anthony Atolagbe, has relocated the headquarters of the task force from Jos to Barkin Ladi.

“The Commander has also relocated with all his principal officers to the epicenter of the renewed attacks. To this end, the commander will be coordinating the day-to-day running of the task force from the new operational headquarters in Barkin Ladi.

“We wish to call on citizens of the state especially the residents of Barkin Ladi Local Government, to continue to have faith in the operations. We are fully on ground to continue to discharge our duties of protecting everybody in the state and we remain resolute to achieving our mandate in the state.

“We therefore use this opportunity to warn any criminal making or planning to make life miserable for innocent citizens to desist from the act forthwith.”

You Need N6m To Promote A Song In Nigeria- Lami

Lami Phillips, a wife, mother and singer, has said a musician needs nothing less than N6m to promote a song. Spekaing to Dupe Ayinka Olasunkanmi Lami spoke also spoke about being singe don to Harrysong;s record label and more....

How has funding been for your career?

Promoting music in Nigeria is very expensive. It takes about six million to promote one song. Investors make a big difference. I endeavour to collaborate with organizations to relieve myself of the heavy expenses but it’s still tough. My goal isn’t for cars or flashy jewelry (not because they are bad but because it’s not really who I am). My goal is to be financially free and wealthy and I’m learning how to use my gifts and skills to get there.

The ultimate goal is peace of mind so I don’t do more than I should…

How do you feel, being the first lady of Alter Plate Music?

Harry is like my father! Protective and invested in helping me articulate my vision. We are learning more about each other and fine tuning our working relationship. The great thing is, as an artiste who has had to work hard to come up, he gets me and is mindful of whom I am. He isn’t trying to make me compromise my values, my sound or myself.

Do you see another female on the label stealing the show?

I am my only threat. I never see another woman or person as a threat. I’m too secure in my identity and purpose for that! I hate that they keep making women think they are threats to each other. I love it when I see another woman succeed; it tells me there is hope and reminds me that women are powerful beyond comprehension.

You have been married for over 10 years, how do you manage your career with your home?

There’s nothing to manage. My career is my job, my home is my life. I simply prioritize. Nothing and nobody can compare or compete with my husband or kids. They are my life.

Actress Who Gets Insulted For Looking Like Mercy Johnson Speaks On Her Education, Career & Scandal

Her name is Keira Hewatch. She is a Nollywood actress. While speaking to Punch about her career, educational background and more, she also spoke about how she gets insulted for looking like her senior Colleague, Mercy Johnson. Read...

Background

I am an only child and I wanted to be a beautiful queen, like in fairytales. I grew up in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, and that is also where I hail from. I had a regular childhood like everybody else. I attended several schools because my mum was a police officer; she was often transferred to different cities.

Education

For my post-elementary education, I attended Police Secondary School, Minna, Niger State, and Sador Airport Authority Staff School, Calabar. Then, I studied Travel and Tourism Hospitality Management at the Graduate School of Management Studies, Ghana. I lived in Ghana for a while before returning to Nigeria but I plan to go back.

Acting

I have always wanted to act; I was very expressive and artistic as a kid. My mum also encouraged me to read by buying me a lot of books. The first movie I acted in was titled Crossroads. It was produced by Emeka Ossai and he starred in it as well. It was also on the set that I met Kate Henshaw for the first time. However, while in Ghana, I featured in some movies but they never saw the light of day.

Parents’ reaction

Initially, I didn’t enjoy the support of my parents because they are religious people and they believed that the industry was corrupt and immoral. They felt it was not a place for a Christian lady to be in. I understood their point of view but I had to do what I had always wanted to do. I respect and love my parents but I also have to take charge of my life. Eventually, they came to see that and they have been very supportive of my career.

Breakthrough

I became well-known after I featured in the movie, Two Brides and a Baby, but I have done a few films that have gone straight to online television. Other movies I have starred in include In the Name of Trust, Murder at Prime Suites, Dinner, Lekki Housewives and Fifty, among others.

Music

I am actually a musician but I don’t really do music mainstream. I have been trying in the last decade to make a name for myself as an actor but I have not gotten to where I want to be yet. Music is a whole career on its own which cannot be juggled (with another) if you have not mastered one completely. I will still do music but not just at the moment.

Scandals

I used to get insulted for looking like Mercy Johnson. The last time I got insulted was when I starred in the movie, Two Brides and a Baby. Since that time, I have not experienced such. Back then, it made me sad because I was being insulted based on something I did not understand. Mercy Johnson is a beautiful woman and for anyone to compare us is really something to be thankful for.

How Can People Believe I Could Beat A Senator’s Daughter – Ibrahim Chatta

I am not a wife beater. It was reported on different occasions that I beat a woman but no one came out with proof. When one beats a woman, don’t you think the women will come up with photos of injuries sustained during the beating? During an interview, a journalist asked me if I had hit a woman before, I said once but she slapped me first and they twisted my words and used it against me. When we die, we should not think it is over because God will like to know how we spent our lives. When I married Salamat, the daughter of a senator, there was no trust in the union. I begged and did everything to make the marriage work because I feared what the fans would think about me. I didn’t want the public to think I could not keep a happy home or see me in a bad light because I know I am a role model. But she said she had stopped loving me since 2012 when we did our Nikkah. According to her, she was only pretending all the while. Even though my mind was no longer in the relationship too, I still wanted her and was willing to put things in order.

When couples fight, I don’t know why people always put the blame on men. If you are an entertainer, it becomes worse as there is a general insinuation that entertainers are promiscuous and irresponsible. I heard different stories when Salamat left me. They also said she left my house because I didn’t have a good home. But I had four bedrooms, two sitting rooms and I accommodated people too. I love having people around me, which also became a problem. But she saw all these before marriage. They also said I beat her like I did to my baby mama. What kind of money do I have that would make me beat a politician’s daughter? Are people so gullible to believe those lies? When people make accusations, they should come out with proof apart from word of mouth.

No Regret Posting My Semi-N*de Photo- Omobutty

Biodun Okeowo, aka Omobutty has said she has no regret posting her semi-n*de photo online. The actress had posted a scene from a movie on her Instagram page where a male actor placed one of his hands on her chest. Many of her followers berated her for the picture, saying it was indecent.

However, the actress told Sunday Scoop that she didn’t have any regret for posting the picture. She said, “The picture was taken on the set of a movie, Blackmail. I featured in the movie alongside other actors such as Liz Da Silva, Joseph Jayeoba, Adeniyi Johnson, among others. I didn’t see the comments claiming that the picture was immoral because once there are over 50 comments on my post, I don’t read them anymore. Even if I had read them, I wouldn’t have felt sad because I was doing my job. I was only being professional. I have no regret posting the picture.”

Maintaining that she doesn’t flaunt her figure, she stated, “I don’t agree that I always flaunt my body; I am just being me. Some people ask if I have to turn my back whenever I take pictures, and I wonder how I would snap pictures without doing that. No matter how I pose, the gifts God gave me would show. If a slim person should pose sideways for a picture, I’m sure that nobody would complain; but if I do the same, people would say all sorts.”
