NATIPP Parades Sex Offenders…

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NATIPP) on Thursday paraded a 43- year –old Pastor, Philip ‘Prince’ Olatunbosun for sexually harassing his 17-year-old house help.

The suspect, who hails from Ondo State, was paraded along four other suspects for human trafficking and rape offences.

The pastor, according to the agency, would sneak into the victim’s room and use his hands to fondle her breasts and other sexual genitals.

NAPTIP’s Director-General, Julie Okah-Donli, who disclosed these at a briefing on Thursday in Abuja, said the move to parade the suspects, is in line with its ‘name and shame’ strategy of ending the twin problems.

Represented by the Director of Investigation and Monitoring at the agency, Mr Josiah Emerole, she said NAPTIP would continue to go after traffickers until it makes the “country a safe place for the people.”

She said: “Three of the cases have to do with rape and sexual violations against minors which are serious offences punishable under the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act (VAPPA) 2015.

“The other two are attempts by two suspects to traffic or smuggle other Nigerians out of the country using fraudulent means contrary to the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015.”

The NAPTIP boss appealed to parents especially the mothers to pay closer attention to their daughters because of the increasingly cases and spate of rape in the country.

“To those out there who now take delight in destroying the lives of the girl child because of their uncontrollable sexual appetite, NAPTIP will no longer allow this to thrive.

“For the traffickers, NAPTIP will continue to go after them until we make the country a safe place for the people,” she said.

A 27-year-old taxi driver, James Eberechukwu Osuji, who hails from Imo State and resides in Abuja, was paraded for luring a 17-year-old female to his house and camped her there from Thursday, August 2, till Saturday, August 4, 2018.

He was alleged to have drugged the victim and sexually violated her within those days.

Also paraded for rape and sexual offences was a 31-year-old Chef, Innocent Etim who hails from Akwa Ibom and resides in Abuja.

He was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl whose mother provides cooking assistance whenever he has a catering contract.

Suspected Fraudster Abducts Facebook Female Friend

A 26-year-old suspected Internet fraudster, Jide Ajayi, has been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old pupil, identified only as Miracle.

Punch Metro learnt that the suspect met the victim on a social media platform, Facebook, from where they exchanged telephone numbers.

The suspect was alleged to have gone to Miracle’s parent’s house on Thursday, August 23, from where he took away the Senior Secondary School one pupil.

After five days together, operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team were reported to have swooped on him at his hideout on Gbeleyi Street, Idimu.

The victim told a Punch correspondent that she could not explain how she got to the area, alleging that Ajayi cast a spell on her.

She also claimed that throughout the five days that she was with him, he did not sexually molest her.

She said, “We became friends on Facebook last year. He was always disturbing me. At a point, I decided to block him because he asked me out. However, on July 17, 2018, after a party in my school, he started chatting with me again. During one of our chats, he asked if I was a virgin and I answered yes.

“I don’t know how he got to my street that night. He called and said he was on our street. I told him that I just returned from a journey and I could not go outside. He said there was no problem and he would leave.

“I went to buy something outside when I saw him. He initially pleaded with me to follow him, but I refused. He then touched me on the shoulders. I lost my senses and obeyed him.

“He took me to his friend’s place in the Pipeline area of Idimu. He held a meeting with the friend called Michael. There was a second friend, Gbenga, with them that night. He told them that I would pass the night with them.

“The room was dark. I was there for about five days. During the period, he locked me in and only brought food to me. I told him that I wanted to go home, but he said I could not find my way home without him.”

The teenager said by Sunday, Michael asked Ajayi to take her away from the house because his girlfriend would be visiting.

The 26-year-old was alleged to have insisted on her staying, as he reportedly made plans to relocate her to another friend’s house.

“When his friend was going to work on Monday, he told us that we had till 3pm to leave his apartment. That was when he (Ajayi) said he was taking me to another friend’s place, but I refused.  Some minutes later, the police came and rescued me,” she added.

Miracle said the suspect did not sleep with her, adding that they were not in a relationship before they met.

Asked the kind of work Ajayi did for a living, Miracle said she believed that he was into Internet scam.

“From Thursday night to Monday afternoon that I was there, he did not touch me and none of his friends did.

“He told me that he works with a company at Apapa. But I believe he is into yahoo yahoo (Internet scam). He never allowed me to touch his phone. But there was a night he was asleep and he forgot to lock the phone. I picked it and open his Hangout application. I saw him chatting with a man and claiming to be a girl.

“From this incident, I have learnt not to go out at night again. I have also stopped using a phone and removed myself from the social media,” she added.

Punch Metro learnt that Miracle’s father died when she was barely four years old and her mother, Foluke, had had to cater to her and her two siblings alone.

Foluke told Punch correspondent that she reported the case at the Idimu Police Station and the IRT’s office at Ikeja.

The mother of three said she believed Ajayi planned to do something evil with her daughter.

She said, “On that Thursday night, I was with my daughter in the house when her younger sister came to say she went to buy chin-chin outside and did not return. More than 24 hours after searching for her, we reported at Idimu and IRT’s office.

“The police said they tracked how he started calling the girl that morning. She switched off her phone and when she turned it on at night, he was the first person to call her and that was how he abducted her.

“I believe he had a mission. His family members have been begging for forgiveness, but I have referred them to the police. It is not possible for him to have kept the girl for five days without touching her, but that was what happened. So, he had a plan. Whenever he wanted to urinate, he locked her up in the room. I want the police to get to the root of the matter. From what I learnt, his calls after he took the girl had been to Kaduna and Kano states. I want to know his mission.”

The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said investigation was ongoing.

He said, “The girl was declared missing and the case was investigated by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, which rescued her. The suspect is still under investigation to unravel the motive for the abduction. The boy has denied sleeping with the girl; we are looking at a suspected case of trafficking. Investigation is ongoing.”

Finally! Saraki Declares To Run For President

The President of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday declared to run for the office of the President of Nigeria.

This came about 24 hours after his Senate colleague, Rabiu Kwankwaso, also declared to run for the same office at an elaborate rally in downtown Abuja.

Messrs Saraki and Kwankwaso are among about a dozen presidential aspirants of the main opposition party, PDP.

Mr. Saraki made his declaration at a public dialogue organised by the #NotTooYoungToRun Movement, a youth-based group that successfully lobbied for the passage of a new law that reduced the age of qualification for political office across the country.

The event, themed: “Youth Candidacy and the Future of Nigeria Beyond 2019”, is a series of political engagement aimed at broadening the political participation of young Nigerians ahead of the elections next February.

Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were invited as part of the series on Thursday, with Mr Saraki being asked to deliver the keynote.

“Your generation does not deserve to live in the poverty capital of the world,” Mr. Saraki said to a cheerful audience.

He promised to lead the fight against poverty and employ every God-given resource available in turning things around.

“I am determined to grow Nigeria out of poverty. We will stimulate the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as one of the ways of energising the economy and to create wealth for our people, especially the youth.”

But the shocking aspect of the appearance came when the Senate President declared his intention to run for president.

“I have decided to answer the call of teeming youth who have asked me to run for President,” he said.

“Accordingly, I hereby announce my intention to run for the office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the coming General Elections in 2019 on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

“I do so with the firm conviction that I have what it takes to secure inclusive growth for Nigeria and Nigerians.”

Mr Saraki had been rumoured as a potential 2019 aspirant for several weeks, making Thursday’s pronouncement more ceremonial than remarkable.

Catholic Church Rejects Call To Overhaul Confession

The Catholic Church in Australia has formally rejected a landmark inquiry's recommendation that priests should be forced to report sexual abuse disclosed during confession.

The five-year inquiry found tens of thousands of children had suffered abuse in Australian institutions. The Catholic Church had the most cases.

On Friday, Church leaders accepted most recommendations given by the inquiry.

However, they reiterated that breaking confession was "contrary to our faith".

"We are committed to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable people while maintaining the seal," the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference said in a statement.

"We do not see the seal as mutually exclusive."

The Church leaders said they would, however, explore other proposals - including asking the Vatican to relax rules on celibacy.

The royal commission inquiry, which concluded in December, heard more than 8,000 testimonies about abuse in churches, schools and sports clubs.

Man Proposes To Girlfriend Using The Side Of A Cow

An udderly-devoted farmer proposed to his girlfriend by writing "will you marry me" on the side of a cow.

Chris Gospel popped the question to Eilidh Fraser by using livestock marker on her favourite cow Curlytop in Strichen, Aberdeenshire.

Mr Gospel went down on one knee after his girlfriend read the message.

He told the BBC Scotland news website when they picked a wedding venue they would have to check the animal policy if planning to feature Curlytop again.

Mr Gospel, 30, said: "Curlytop is Eilidh's favourite cow.

"She is around the cows most nights so I managed to write the proposal, and then said we should go down and see her after she got back from work.

"Curlytop came up to us and Eilidh said 'what have you done?'

"Eilidh turned round and I went down on one knee - and she said yes."

His new 30-year-old laboratory worker fiancee - who hand-fed Curlytop and described her as being affectionate ever since - said the proposal came as a "complete surprise".

Usain Bolt To Make Footballing Debut Tomorrow

Usain Bolt is set to make his footballing debut for Australian club Central Coast Mariners in a friendly on Friday night.

Bolt, 32, has long spoken of his ambition to become a professional footballer and his trial at the A-League club follows similar stints for sides in Germany and Norway.

The Olympic sprint champion has been put through his paces for the Mariners - who finished bottom of the league last season after being signed on an indefinite trial for the club based 50 miles north of Sydney.

Head coach Mike Mulvey has said the eight-time Olympic champion is likely to play some part at the Central Coast Stadium against a select XI in front of more than 10,000 fans.

Manchester-born Mulvey said: "It comes down to what the fitness coaches tell me with regards to how his body's coping with the loading we've got at the moment.

"But I would imagine he's going to be playing some part on Friday.

"When you do track and field it's virtually a straight line and a track coach will never ask you to decelerate or accelerate the way that we do, it's multidirectional movement in football, so he has to get used to that.

"I'm quite pleased with the way he's progressing, and he'll be sore every night, because the sessions are quite gruelling, but he's determined."

The 100m and 200m world-record holder is currently having an indefinite trial with the Mariners as he bids to earn himself a sport-swapping contract for the forthcoming A-League season, which starts in October.
