A teenager (names withheld) has told the police in Lagos how her mother humiliated and made life unbearable for her after she told her that her father was s-xually assaulting her.

The girl said she had to run from home to a friend’s place to safe herself from her mother’s constant humiliation.

She spoke at the Gender Unit of the Police Command where detectives handling the case of r-pe against her 58-year-old father, Johnson Okon, asked her to narrate what transpired.


The 14-year-old girl said: “I never believed in my wildest imagination that my mother will not believe me. It was very painful that I told my mum what my father did to me when she was away but instead of taking action, she warned me that I should not tell anyone. I ran from home when I couldn’t stand the pain anymore.”

Okon, a resident of Charismatic Road, Abule, Berger, Ikorodu, was paraded before reporters by Police Commissioner Imohimi Edgal

Edgal said it was painful that the girl’s parents both failed to protect her and she had to run to her father’s friend’s home for refuge.

“This case is still being investigated. The survivor has been referred to Mirabel Centre for medical examination,” the Commissioner said.
