Californian grandmother Ann Ukrainetz believes she is the illegitimate daughter of Maurice Burke Roche, 4th Baron Fermoy, and the grandfather of Princess Diana.
Ann, of Escondido, wants to have Maurice's twin brother Francis' remains dug up and his DNA tested to prove the link.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, 75-year-old Ann said this would give her the answers she's been seeking for more than 20 years.
She claimed she was the flesh and blood of the British royal family.
But Ann says she has contacted members of the royals and hasn't received a response yet.
Ann claims she discovered the real identity of her biological father in a confession letter from her mum Evelyn Rudderforth who died in 1995.
But she only found the letter four years after her mum's death.
Ann, born in Kings Lynn, Norfolk, always believed she was the daughter of Charles Rudderforth.
But she now believes her mum had a love affair with Maurice.
According to the Mail, the letter said: "Please try to understand. I just have to get this off my chest. Charlie was not your biological father.
"I fell in love with Lord Fermoy and we had you as a result. He was married and I was just a commoner.
"There was nothing we could do. We stayed in close touch and he loved you very much."
Ann wants to have the remains of Maurice's identical twin Francis dug up, who is buried in New York, to show she is Princess Diana's auntie.
She has got in touch with lawyers about making this happen - and has even set up a gofundme page to raise money for the legal fees.
The page, created by her partner Michael King, says: "Ann's biological father was 4th Baron Maurice Fermoy, buried at Sandringham Estate, United Kingdom.
"4th Baron Maurice has an identical twin brother who is buried in a cemetary in NYC.
"For us, it would be much easier and far less costly to disinter the body of the identical twin brother, and if viable DNA remains, then, Ann's claim would be proven once and for all, either way.(sic).
