Daredevil YouTuber breaks skull as he jumps off bridge in 'reckless' stunt to get views

YouTuber Saa Fomba fractured his skull after jumping off an enormous bridge and hitting the water below with some serious force.

On Saturday, Saa Fomba released footage of the dramatic moment that he plunged into the Colorado River from the top of Pennybacker Bridge.

In the almost 17-minute long video, Saa initially addresses his viewers about his upcoming stunt and said he hoped that he could inspire fans to 'chase their dreams'.

"Hopefully this video motivates you to chase after your dreams. I don't see no fun in living a normal life," he said, while driving to the Texas location.

Eager onlookers then watched from the shoreline as Saa carefully climbed up the side of the bridge before looking down at the water below.

The bridge - that forms part of the North Capital of Texas Highway and features four lanes of traffic rushing across it - has a 30m clearing to the water. However, the tip of the arch from which he jumped appears to more than double that height.

In the footage, Saa then leapt off the bridge and plummeted into the water before several moments of silence.

The YouTuber then surfaced and let out a yelp as a boat came to pick him up from the river.

However, Saa quickly realised that something wasn't right and medics were called to the scene of the jump.

According to CBS Austin, medics responded to a call on November 23 relating to the jump.

At the side of the river, the paramedics then found Saa lying on the floor and clutching his head.

Saa then told the people surrounding him that he had fallen on his back when he hit the water.

Grass-cutting fraud: EFCC re-arraigns ex-SGF Lawal today

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will today (Monday) re-arraign a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, and six others, for an alleged fraudulent N544m grass-cutting contract, The Punch has learnt.

This will be the second re-arraignment of the defendants, who were first arraigned before the late Justice Jude Okeke of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Maitama, Abuja on February 13, 2019.

Lawal, along with his younger brother, Hamidu Lawal, Suleiman Abubakar, Apeh  Monday and two companies – Rholavision Engineering Ltd and Josmon Technologies Ltd –  had pleaded not guilty to the charges when read to them before Justice Okeke.

The prosecution was to open its case on March 18, 2019, when they announced that they had amended the 10 counts, bordering on fraud, diversion of over N544m and criminal conspiracy.

The development necessitated a re-arraignment of the defendants, who again pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The trial had proceeded before Justice Okeke with the EFCC still calling its witnesses, when the judge died on August 4, 2020.

Justice Okeke, aged 64, died after a brief illness at the National Hospital, Abuja.

Following the judge’s demise, the case was re-assigned to Justice Charles Agbaza of the Jabi Division of the FCT High Court, where the trial will have to start afresh.

Punch correspondent gathered that the judge fixed today for the re-arraignment.

The EFCC alleged, in the 10 counts, that the defendants fraudulently converted cumulative proceeds of grass-cutting contracts worth over N500m which Lawal, as then SGF, allegedly awarded to  companies in which he had interests.

The Frenchman also heaped praise on Formula 1's halo crash-protection system, without which he believes he "wouldn't be able to speak with you today".

Grosjean miraculously emerged from his burning Haas after it smashed into the safety barriers at high speed in the first lap.

The 34-year-old was helped back to the paddock before he was taken to hospital with "light burns on his hands and ankles", according to team principal Gunther Steiner.

It was also reported Grosjean had suffered suspected broken ribs, but the driver was able to post an update on social media from hospital on Sunday evening.

"Hello everyone, I just wanted to say I am OK - well, sort of OK," said a smiling Grosjean on Instagram while pointing to the large bandages on his hands.

Borno killings: We are losing our country, laments Duke

Former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has attributed the failure of the military in the North-East part of the country to the under-motivation of the soldiers.

According to him, Boko Haram is fast taking over parts of Nigeria and there is the need to snatch back the country from the clutches of marauders.

The former governor, who spoke last night on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics programme also stressed that all the intelligence agencies of the government must be sanctioned for every Boko Haram attack, going forward.

At least 43 rice farmers were killed by Boko Haram insurgents at Zabarmari in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State on Saturday. The attack is one of the horrific attacks carried out by the terrorist sect this year.

Reacting, Duke said, “Regarding the North-East, we have to strengthen our intelligence gathering, we need to motivate them, we need to motivate the soldiers out there but more importantly, we need to institute consequences into our nation.

“We talk about the killings in our nation and in each state, we have the police, they have their intelligence arm; we have the DSS, they gather intelligence; we have the Army, they gather intelligence; we have the Navy, they have an intelligence arm and we have the Air Force, they do the same. But these things happen and none of these intelligence bodies, about five, six in every state, know; they are all taken unawares and there are no consequences. And that is the problem, there most be consequences because they are paid to look out for the people.

“There is a need for the complete revamp of our security network. We can’t go on like this definitely; we are losing our country.

“The soldiers in the North-East should be motivated, they are under-motivated. We need to task them on intelligence gathering and strengthen their firepower.”

Duke also noted that there should be police presence in every five kilometres. “Presence is a deterrent,” he said, adding that crime is now sophisticated in Nigeria and so, unemployed graduates who can think more intelligently like the criminals should be injected into the force.

He, therefore, tasked the states to join efforts with the federal government on improving the nation’s security system by employing more hands in the security of lives and property.

Trump sends ‘get well’ message to Biden over foot fracture

US president-elect Joe Biden has a foot fracture and will likely have to wear a medical boot, his team said Sunday after the 78-year-old was taken to the doctor because he had slipped while playing with his dog.

Biden, who will become the oldest US president upon his January swearing-in, suffered the injury Saturday with Major, one of his two German shepherds.

The president-elect’s personal physician Kevin O’Connor initially said x-rays had not uncovered any “obvious fracture”, but added that an additional CT scan would still be done.

That scan “confirmed hairline (small) fractures… in the mid-foot,” O’Connor said in a subsequent statement released by Biden’s office.

He added that the former vice president, who won election against Donald Trump in November, “will likely require a walking boot for several weeks”.

“Get well soon!” Trump said on Twitter, in a retweet of an NBC video showing Biden leaving an orthopedic office.

Borno killings: Buhari helpless, security has collapsed, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party has said, it has become apparent that President Buhari, and the All Progressives Congress regime he leads have become helpless as the nation’s security deteriorates.

In a statement titled, “PDP Condemns Beheading of Farmers By Insurgents…Tasks Buhari to Sit Up on Security,” signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party equally condemned the gruesome murder of 43 rice farmers in Borno by suspected Boko Haram insurgents.

The statement read, “The PDP condemns in the strongest terms, the gruesome beheading of 43 innocent farmers by insurgents in Zabarmari, Borno state.

“The party describes the act as extremely wicked, devilish and must not be left unaddressed.

“The PDP notes with pain that this horrific killing of compatriots comes as yet another of the recurring horrid testament and badge of failure of the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC administration to secure our nation and guarantee the safety of lives and property in our country.

“Indeed, our party is distressed by the escalated killing and maiming of innocent Nigerians by insurgents, bandits and marauders, who have continued to ravage and pillage our communities, while the lazy and lethargic Buhari administration continues with its lip service, rhetoric and false performance claims.

“The PDP is particularly disturbed because of the failure of the Buhari Presidency to take decisive action despite series of concerns raised by Borno state governor, Baba Gana Zulum, of security compromises in the state.

“The Buhari administration appears helpless while our national security structure under President Buhari seems to have collapsed. Our nation appears to be on autopilot with no one in charge while the ship of state continues to drift.“

It further stated, “All our nation gets from the Buhari Presidency is that ‘Mr. President is shocked’, ‘Mr. President is saddened’, ‘Mr. President regrets’ and such lame responses without any decisive policy direction or directive to definitively tackle the situation at hand, leading to escalation of killings in our country.

“Such attitude by the Buhari administration has continued to embolden insurgents to the extent that they now attack military formations, convoys of state governors and engage in the wanton beheading of our compatriots.“

The opposition party said it was distressing that despite this sorry situation, the President, who promised to lead from the front, has ‘receded into the safety of Aso Presidential villa and refused to act on the consistent demands of Nigerians to rejig the national security architecture and replace the service chiefs with more capable hands to affectively tackle our security challenges.

The party charged the president to end what it called his unhelpful rhetoric, sit up and take actions that will safeguard the lives of Nigerians who have been subjected to all manners of mental and physical torture under this incompetent administration.

It challenged the President to immediately move to Zabarmari in Borno state, empathize with the families of the victims and lead from the front in restoring security in the area.

While expressing its condolences to the government and people of Borno State, the PDP urged residents to remain vigilant and assist the military with the necessary information required to end the Boko Haram menace.

I received vision that I would be Osun state Governor in my dreams – Adegboyega Oyetola

Osun State Governor, Adegboyega Oyetola, has said he received a vision from God that he would be Governor long before he joined the race.

He said this while addressing a congregation at a service held to commemorate the second anniversary of his administration at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Osun Province 1 Headquarters, Osogbo, on Sunday.

Oyetola explained that after the divine encounter he had in his dream, he could only remember the last line of the song that was revealed to him.

He said, “I am ordinarily not one who sees visions but on two occasions, I had a strange encounter. Imagine the son of an Imam, receiving a Christian song in a dream.  That was my encounter.

“All I could remember on both occasions was the last line of the song which says ‘IleriOluwa ni lati se’. Outside of that dream, I had never heard the song before. When the impression was heavy on my heart, I called one of my friends to ask him about the song, and he told me the song was the Track 2 of Timi Oshikoya’s album.

“He went out and got me the album and immediately I started listening to the track, my consciousness was restored and then I had an understanding of what God was saying to me. That revelation has continued to give me confidence of victory each time I am faced with legal and political battles since becoming governor.”

Not 43, ‘over 110 killed’ in Borno rice farmer attack - UN reveals

United Nations (UN) has revealed that not less than 110 civilians were killed by Boko Haram in the attack on a rice field in Borno State.

A statement by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon on Sunday while describing the attack as horrifying, said not less than 110 people were killed with many other persons injured in one the deadliest attack by the terrorist group, who have laid siege on the Northeast for over a decade.

Kallon said: “I am outraged and horrified by the gruesome attack against civilians carried out by non-state armed groups in villages near Borno State capital Maiduguri.

“At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were wounded in this attack.”

He disclosed that: “In early afternoon of 28 November, armed men on motorcycles led a brutal attack on civilian men and women who were harvesting their fields in Koshobe and other rural communities in Jere Local Government Area. Reports we are receiving are indicating these innocent farmers were the victims of this callous violence.”

Kallon, while condoling with the government and people of Nigeria, said: “I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the civilians who lost their lives in this atrocious attack. I also wish a speedy recovery to those who were wounded in the incident.”

Kallon also lamented that several women may have been kidnapped in the attack.

He said: “We have also received reports that several women may have been kidnapped. I call for their immediate release and return to safety.”

He added that: “My thoughts are also with the rural communities in the area, who are shocked by the brutality of yesterday’s (Saturday’s) attack and fear for their safety.”

"You never know what people go through," said another neighbor, Demetrius Wilson.

Daughter allegedly butchers mom, slice body into parts in Uyo

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it has arrested one Mary Ime, a resident of Umoh Obot in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, who reportedly butchered her mother, Eka Ime on Friday, 27th November, 2020, and sliced her body into different parts.

It was gathered that angry youths led by elders compelled her to park her mother’s parts into a basin and walked round the community in total condemnation of the incident.

It was further gathered that when the police came to arrest her, she said that she did not care if she was arrested or not.

But the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Odiko Macdon, who confirmed the incident in Uyo, expressed surprise at the action.

He said no right thinking person would slaughter her own mother in such a gruesome manner, adding the police would conduct a test to certify her state of mind before she is charged to court.

According to the PPRO, “The story is true; she butchered her mum. We are suspecting that she is not of sound mind but we do not have any medical capacity yet to say so.

“Medical personnel will have to determine if she is of sound mind, because no right thinking person will kill her mother by butchering her.

“As we speak, we have her in our custody. We have gathered the parts of her mother and deposited in the mortuary. By the time we ascertain her state of mind we will charge her accordingly, we have conducted preliminary investigation and more discreet investigation is on the way and she will be charged to court immediately after that.”

Man charged with murdering rapper 21 Savage’s brother, TM1way

A man has been charged with the murder of a rapper who was reportedly killed as he took shopping to his grandmother.

Terrell Davis, who performed as TM1way, was stabbed to death in Ramilles Close in Brixton Hill, south London, just before 6pm on 22 November.

It was reported that the 27-year-old had been visiting his elderly relative when he bumped into an old friend and was stabbed.

He was the brother of the US rapper 21 Savage, who paid tribute by posting a picture of the pair together on Instagram. The performer wrote: “Can’t believe somebody took you baby bro I know I took my anger out on you I wish I could take that shit back.”

Paramedics and an air ambulance crew tried to save Davis but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Sunday the Metropolitan police said detectives investigating the killing had charged a man with murder. Tyrece Fuller, 21, of Tavy Close, Lambeth, is due to appear in custody at Bromley magistrates court on Monday.

A Met police spokesperson said this week: “Terrell’s family are distraught and we are providing them with support via specially trained officers as they begin to grieve for him.”

21 Savage has been based in the US since he was seven, but the Grammy-nominated artist – whose real name is She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph – was born in Newham, east London. He was arrested by US immigration officials last year over claims he failed to leave the country when his visa expired.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma flags off rabbits empowerment scheme [photos]

The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma, has flagged off rabbits empowerment scheme for youths in the state, Daily Nigerian reports.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony on Friday, Mr Uzodinma said he is determined to engage youths in productive ventures that will guarantee their meaningful employment.

“We have flagged-off the commencement of the empowerment of our youths through agriculture and the official handover of the Imo State office of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) at Okigwe road Owerri as Imo is the pilot State and South East Zonal Head Office.

“It is worthy of mention that the Federal Government, through NALDA, has empowered 250 beneficiaries from Imo State on rabbit farming as it flagged off the second phase of the NALDA empowerment scheme for young farmers in the area of rabbit breeding and rearing.

“The NALDA is saddled with the mandate of harnessing the full potentials of the vast arable lands in Nigeria for the purpose of empowering and supporting small holder farmers both on large scale and mechanized scales.

“I thank the Presidency for this initiative aimed at empowering our youths and growing the economy. I also thank the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Mr. Paul Ikonne for all the support.

“I have always maintained that the most effective way to ensure sustained socio-economic development in Nigeria and Imo State, in particular, is to engage youths in productive ventures that will guarantee their meaningful employment.

“This programme will guarantee food security, empower youths and reduce restiveness amongst other benefits and so engaging 774,000 youths across the nation would stimulate huge economic growth. These efforts will lead to food and fibre security and assist in diversifying the nation’s economy, improving household income and enhancing revenue mobilization and generation nationwide.

“The government has provided enabling environment for them, including being their primary off-takers, ready to purchase whatever they produce.

“To this end, I urge the beneficiaries to take the business seriously,” the governor said.
