Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige has said that stakeholders across the South East geo political zone were pressuring him to run for the senate in 2019, explaining that he was giving it a serious consideration.

Ngige, who was governor of Anambra State from 2003 to 2006, also represented Anambra Central in the country’s upper legislative chambers from 2011 -2015 and has been a minister since All Progressives Congress, APC, took over the mantle of leadership in Nigeria in 2015.

Addressing reporters at Obosi in Idemili North local government area of Anambra State, Ngige said that following the pressure, he started consulting on the issue, adding that the result of the consultations would be made known in the next two weeks.

He said: “The people who are pressurising me, including my constituents, people of Anambra State and some prominent people from the South-East, are all in agreement that we need to go and better the milieu of the Ninth Senate. Many people feel that the present Eight Senate has been engulfed in a battle of supremacy with the executive and they feel that some of us who have tested the executive and Senate before should go back.

“I am considering it; I am consulting and the result of my consultations will be made known in a fortnight because by then, I would have concluded my consultations.”

According to Ngige, “what makes a good national assembly is that the electorate should get people who are cerebral, people who are energetic, people who know other Nigerians and people who have the reach, to represent them so that they go there and negotiate and not bully.”
