A man was stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival on Monday night as police made a total of nearly 400 arrests and seized 69 knives and other weapons including acid at the world's largest street festival.

The number of arrests is up by nearly 33 per cent compared to last year, which saw 313 criminals busted by police.

This year Scotland Yard implemented enhanced stop and search powers and rolled out the use of 'knife arches' at the event for the first time in its history to clamp down on the amount of weapons being sneaked in.

It comes as former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith demanded an increase in the use of stop and search to bring an end to a 'toxic cycle of serious violence' by London gangs who operate 'with impunity'.

As of 11.59pm on Monday night, police confirmed 69 offensive weapons - including 49 knives - were seized, including acid and a stun gun, over the weekend.

In total 373 people were arrested by Met Police officers while a further 12 were detained by British Transport Police.

Despite the huge police presence, brazen festival-goers were pictured openly taking drugs in front of officers as they partied in the streets of west London for the second day in a row.
