Rose McGowan is to be the first woman in the history of the GQ Men Of The Year Awards to receive the Inspiration prize at the annual ceremony on September 5.

The actress, 44, will be honoured in recognition of her 'strength and bravery' in speaking out on sexual assault and harassment in the film industry after her accusations against Harvey Weinstein paved the way for the #MeToo movement.

Dylan Jones, Editor of GQ said: 'This award recognises the sheer strength and bravery Rose McGowan has shown in coming forward and being one of the first to publicly accuse an industry figure head of grossly abusing his position of power.

'Rose is the absolute embodiment of this award and it will be great to watch her receive the award next month.'

The star said she is 'proud' to receive the honour at the 21st annual GQ Men Of The Year Awards, and hailed the current climate surrounding harassment and abuse as 'a new dawn and a new day'.
Speaking in a statement released to MailOnline, she said: 'I'm proud to be honored by GQ receiving the Man of the Year Inspiration award.

'It's a new dawn, a new day for all of us to celebrate positive societal change.'

McGowan has been an outspoken advocate of the #MeToo movement after being one of the first women to come forward last year with allegations of sexual abuse against shamed movie mogul Weinstein, 66.
