Now husband and wife, they have been through plenty of ups and downs but it seems that they wouldn't have stood a chance of a life together if Kanye had listened to his friends and advisors.
During an interview with Van Jones on Be Woke Vote, Kim spoke candidly about the time before she got together with her rapper hubby and that, despite 'knowing him forever', didn't believe they would get together due to her chequered past.
Kim, 38, said: "We’ve been through a lot together. You know, I’ve known him for 15 years now. Became friends with him maybe in like 2006, 2007.
"Met him in like [2002 or 2003]. I’ve known him forever.
"He’s put himself up against the world for me when everyone told him, ‘You cannot date a girl with a sex tape. You cannot date a reality show girl. This is going to ruin your career.’
"Everyone told him that."
Kanye is not someone who has often taken the path that most people have told him to, so pairing up with Kim was always on the cards.
Kim said that Kanye was 'not going to be told what to do' and she said she would, "always love and appreciate him for always standing up for me."
In a glut of gushing praise for her controversial other half, Kim said that he was, "always there to hold my hand and lift me up higher and give me the confidence."
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has been married for four years to Kanye and they have three children - daughters North, 5, and Chicago, 9 months as well as son, Saint, 2.
