Eminem was forced to "confront a home intruder" after a man allegedly broke into his Detroit mansion weeks ago.

According to TMZ, the incident happened at around 4am and law enforcement officers told the outlet that the suspect is believed to be 26-year-old Matthew David Hughes.

The intruder is believed to have broken into the property, which is situated in a secure-gated community, by smashing a kitchen window with a paving stone and climbing into the house.

He is said to have made it as far as the living room before an alarm system was activated and fortunately woke up Eminem who went to investigate and allegedly found Hughes standing there.

The intruder was then restrained after the star shouted for his security, according to reports.

Hughes is said to have been taken into custody after police were called to the Detroit property, and it has been reported that he was arrested on first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building.

According to TMZ, Hughes is still being held on a $50k bond at the Macomb County Jail.

It is said that the suspect did not want to steal anything - he just wanted to meet the rapper face-to-face, according to TMZ.

Eminem, who has a net-worth of $210 million, is best known for his song Stan, which explains the story of a jealous stalker - who is named Stanley 'Stan' Mitchell.

The song lyrics describe how the character Stan writes him letters and becomes obsessed and angry when the rapper doesn't reply.
