A former Mississippi police officer has been arrested after allegedly crashing his car while drunk and hitting five children as they got off their school bus on Thursday afternoon in central Florida.

One of those children, 13-year-old Jahiem Roberterson has since died of his injuries.

The driver, 48-year-old John Camfield, also reportedly struck Ryan Pryse, 12, who was hit in the arm and Jonte Robinson, 15, who were treated at the scene.

Another child, Juan Mena, 14, also suffered life-threatening injuries and is said to be in critical condition after being air lifted to Arnold Palmer Children's Hospital in Orlando.

A pregnant woman was injured in the crash when Camfield hit her car around 5pm on Allegheny Road near Athabasca in Poinciana after striking the children.

Camfield was reportedly so drunk after that he had no idea the accident had even taken place. His blood alcohol content measured at .14 seven hours after his arrest - still almost double the legal limit, according to Florida Today.

Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described Camfield hitting the children and 'scattering them like a bowling ball through bowling pins.'
