They also set his body ablaze.
While information surrounding the death of Ilum was still sketchy at the time of filing the report, it was gathered the deceased had a misunderstanding with his wife, a restaurant owner popularly known in the area as Mama Chi-Chi before she came out for business.
It was gathered that while the woman was getting set for business, the husband arrived at her business premises, pulled a gun and shot her in the mouth.
Ilum was said to have fled the scene after shooting the wife but was later brought out from a well where he had hidden before being stoned and burnt to death by a mob.
“The woman for all that we know is not a violent woman. She owns a restaurant in the village.
“We were told that she has been sustaining her family through the proceeds of the business while the husband is not contributing to the welfare of the family.
“The man who was accused of being fetish, after killing his wife mysteriously disappeared from the scene.
“The youths were said to have gone to his house to look for him but when they searched and couldn’t get him, they started destroying his house.
“We learnt that some of the villagers went to a man who is a native doctor to inquire about the whereabouts of Ilum.
“The native doctor after incantations took the villagers to an old well where he went and brought out Ilum.
“The youths of the community were said to take possession of Ilum whom they beat to pulp before setting his body ablaze,” a source narrated.
When contacted, the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Geoffrey Ogbonna said that he was yet-to-be informed about the incident.
