They announced the news on Wednesday, just two months after Waithe revealed they had gotten married.
"After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways," the former couple said in a joint statement to ET. "We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time."
The screenwriter, producer and actress revealed that she and Mayo had tied the knot during a November appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, which was guest hosted by John Legend. And just two months after, they have gone their separate ways.
